This lovely Chinese export repoussé silver bowl is from the firm of Luen Hing of Shanghai. Among the most celebrated silversmiths of the period, the firm crafted and retailed exceptional pieces of silver for European tourists in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, many of them special commissions. The present piece displays a charming floral and foliate scene, interspersed with enchanting avian figures with a vacant cartouche at its center. Exquisitely rendered, the bowl boasts a meandros decorative border intricately carved around its top edge, while a delicate beaded border lines the pedestal base.
The bowl features the mark of Luen Hing, a firm active in Shanghai from 1880-1925.
